I’m looking for book recommendations that have a similar feel to the Before trilogy (Before Sunrise / Sunset / Midnight).
I really love stories that are more about conversations and connection than plot – something intimate, a bit philosophical, and focused on relationships over time. That quiet, wandering, “just talking about life” kind of vibe.
Some books I’ve enjoyed:
– The Great Gatsby
– The Catcher in the Rye
– The Kite Runner
– A Thousand Splendid Suns
– Norwegian Wood (liked the emotional tone, but not a fan of the explicit parts)
– The Diary of a Young Girl
– Days at the Morisaki Bookshop
– Tuesdays with Morrie
I usually gravitate towards:
– character-driven stories
– strong emotional connection between people
– simple, thoughtful writing
Would love recommendations that feel personal and real – ideally not heavy on explicit content.
Thanks in advance.

*Swimming in the Dark by Tomasz Jedrowski* – a queer love story set against the background of Poland in the 80s, and inspired by Giovanni’s Room (also recommend this!). It is a beautifully emotional, poetic and literary exploration of love and life being tossed about the waves of political turmoil ☺️. The development of the relationship takes places over several years with some time skips similar to the Before movies
