Studs Terkel’s Hard Times is an oral history of the Great Depression.

And The Worst Hard Time is all about the dust bowl.

    2. Something Will Happen, You’ll See by Christos Oikonomou is a book of short stories about characters living through the Greek economic crisis and it’s very good

Kristen Hannah isn’t always my favorite author, but The Four Winds fits perfectly.

A lot of Paul Murray’s (**excellent**) books take place during the financial crisis in Ireland.

_The Bee Sting_ is about four different perspectives from an individual family member, about how shame manifests into horrible unintended consequences, set during the major economic downturn. The mother’s perspective in particular feels manic with its complete lack of punctuation.

_The Mark and the Void_ is more also set during the financial crisis, but is more clearly _about_ it than just a setting, as it involves a banker who is (knowingly) followed by a man who claims he wants to write about his life
