Mary Oliver made me care about a grasshopper and a field and the way light moves through trees. She wrote about paying attention like it was the most important work a person could do. I have read her poems so many times I could recite them in my sleep. But I want a story now. A whole book that slows down enough to notice frost on a mailbox or the sound of a neighbor closing their door at night.
Does anyone know a novel that watches the world with that same gentle stillness?
