Fun fantasy/sci-fi with well written characters

I’m looking for a novel, ideally fantasy, sci-fi, or speculative fiction, that’s a fun or exciting read but also has good prose and well-written characters.

Books I’ve loved that would fit the bill:

-Jade City and sequels by Fonda Lee

-Black Sun and sequels by Rebecca Roanhorse (not exactly fun, but exciting and full of twists)

-Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K Dick

-Earthsea cycle by Ursula K LeGuin

Books I’m not looking for right now:

-Cozy fantasy, please no TJ Klune

-Huge doorstoppers with long descriptive passages

-Terry Pratchett (sorry!) or Brandon Sanderson (dialogue is a bit wooden for my taste)

-Any YA
