Hey, I read "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" and really enjoyed it.
I’d love to explore more books like this- not necessarily in the cyberpunk genre, but rather stories where a character finds themselves in a hopeless situation.
I like movies and TV shows like "Taxi Driver", "Fight Club", "Steins;Gate", "Edge of Tomorrow" ,"Shutter Island" or "The Truman Show"
Do you have any suggestions please?

A Deepness in the Sky by Vernor Vinge
Red Rising! (Hail Reaper)
Not Sci-Fi but Guns Of The Dawn is about a woman who gets sort of drafted into a Revolutionary War era conflict. Feels pretty hopeless. Focuses a lot on sacrifice, brotherhood (sisterhood), and doing the right thing regardless of consequences. Some light magic but I mean LIGHT. Like it’s not a driving force in the plot or anything.
Written by Aidrian Tchaikovsky who is fantastic and worth considering beyond this one recommendation.
His other novel Cage of Souls would also fit this bill. Man is arrested as political prisoner and taken to an island in the jungle to work the rest of his days. What he finds there, between sporadic flashbacks of his previous life, deeply moves him and shapes his future.
# The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson felt like this to me
