I just read these two books one after another and I may have reached the peak experience for my taste. Both appeal to me in prose and life lessons they contain. I like that simple (not overly flowery) writing style that conveys so much with efficient, beautifully composed sentences. I will read Of Mice and Men, and Grapes of Wrath next hoping for more of this type of style, but I am open to suggestions of what else I should consider for myself in the future. Please help.

i’m obsessed with finding that perfect read after those classics. it feels like every book just doesn’t compare to that era of storytelling.
You might dig Calder Willingham. He wrote Rambling Rose, which was made into a movie that is really good also. And he wrote a bestseller everyone kind of forgot called Eternal Fire that was a good read.
You might like Richard Ford, the Frank Bascombe series that begins with The Sportswriter.
Truly… East of Eden is peak literature perfection
