I watched the martian a few weeks ago, immediately became one of my favorite movies, then I read the book and it and it was even better, before reading it I looked up reviews and saw somebody say it was incredibly boring and reads like a manual, which I thought was amusing and only made me more interested in reading it, I really liked the problem solving, and it didn't dumb down the explanations too much.

I'm looking for more books like that, I saw some other posts similar to this but a lot had different focuses than I do so I wanted to make my own.

I'm mainly looking for sci-fi but if you have some less conventional recommendations please go ahead.

Well, project hail mary is similar, also by the same writer. I am currently reading the bobiverse books, those strike the same chord in my opinion.

If you don’t mind staying on Earth, Cryptonomicon goes hard on this narrative style. A lot of Neal Stephenson’s books are basically sci fi set in a realistic past.

    3. Anything Kim Stanley Robinson, but The Mars trilogy is a good entry point. It’s very well written hard science, but very accessible.
