Hi everyone, I’d like some suggestions for books about queer/ LGBT history as this is a topic I’m really interested in and want to learn more about.
I’m ok with fiction or nonfiction but I would really like any fiction to be factually correct and period accurate.
Thank you in advance

Hearts invisible furies and the great believers
Nonfiction recs: Sapphistries, the Lesbian Menace, the Lesbian Path, Different Daughters, the Lavender Menace, Conduct Unbecoming, and the Band Played On, the Secret Diaries of Anne Lister.
Most of these except Sapphistries are focused on the united states or western history.
Technically not only queer per se but I highly recommend And the Band Played On: Politics, People, and the AIDS Epidemic by Randy Shilts. It’s about the early days of the AIDS epidemic and in particular its impact on queer communities.
Gay New York by George Chauncey was hugely groundbreaking and it is still a fascinating read.
Naked in the Promised Land by Lillian Faderman is a memoir I absolutely loved, she grew up the daughter of an immigrant mother, put herself through college burlesque dancing in San Francisco, and then came out and became one of the first academics to study queer history. It’s an incredible story and she’s a great writer.
The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai
