I've read to many heavy/deep/depressing novels recently, and I'm looking for something easy and entertaining to read on my upcoming vacation. I'm trying to get back into reading mystery and am a general newbie to the genre, and was looking for a novel that is a bit "lighter".

To Say Nothing of the Dog, Connie Willis.
Not a murder mystery, a hunt for the Bishops Bird Stump.

      Lady Hardcastle mysteries.

Not only are they not deep and difficult, the main character is funny

I just read ‘Everyone in my Family Has Killed Someone’ by Benjamin Stevenson. It was a fun lil mystery/thriller. 4th wall breaking, silly whodunit. Audio book was a great experience.

In the Woods by Tana French (followed by the full Dublin Murder Squad series if you like it).

You might enjoy the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. I’d recommend book 15 or 16 for something light, entertaining, and laugh out loud funny. IMO, they can be read out of order, as the author introduces the characters at the start of each book and there *generally* aren’t important references to previous storylines . The first book is probably the darkest in the series which is why I wouldn’t necessarily recommend starting there.
