I've been looking into books by former LE who had to be persuasive in high stakes situations because I've been dealing with very difficult (sometimes abusive) people in my daily life. Was hoping for some suggestions that might fit my reading list. Bonus points for books that break down techniques psychics or mentalists use for persuasion. (Chris Voss gave psychics a shout out as a group that would make very good salesmen. And mentalists are kind of the same thing as psychics, just not fraudulent. Psychics claim to talk to the dead and give bad life advice/mentalists frame the whole psychic thing as just entertainment and don't pretend to talk to the dead.) My end goal is to be weirdly persuasive.
I'm interested in topics like:
Empathy
Mirroring
Building rapport
Reading body language
Cold reading
Warm reading
Hot reading
Conflict deescalation
Sales techniques
Psychology of persuasion
Mentalism style suggestion (maybe, more into cold reading but I've seen mentalists do some pretty cool stuff with indirect suggestion. Specifically Derren Brown.)
So far my list is:
Never Split the difference – Chris Voss
Fight Less Win More – Johnathan B Smith & Derek Gaunt
The Like Switch – Jack Schafer
What Every Body Is Saying – Joe Navarro
It's Not All About Me – Robin Dreeke
Agent of Influence – Jason Hanson

Jane Austen would be 250 years old if she were still alive.
You could do worse than “Persuasion”.
