Today I stumbled across an editorial from The Guardian saying that Middlemarch is the greatest English language novel of all time. Regardless of the claim's validity, you better bet your ass that my interest in the novel shot through the roof. But I have a few questions before I seek it out due to it's length:
How quickly does it take off? Is it a slow start or does it take off close to the beginning?
How is the rest of the novel paced?
Lastly, how bustling is Middlemarch itself? I struggle with more rural settings for novels, therefore preferring ones set in cities. If it has both aspects, please say so.
Thats it! No spoilers please! I don't care if it happens on the first page, don't tell me.
