I want to learn more science and history topics but I find a lot of nonfiction to be less engaging compared to suspense/thrillers sci fi/fantasy/romantasy books. I like a lot of different genres but I don’t always feel like I’m actually learning anything super valuable and grounded in facts, while still being character driven and entertaining. For example I really like Ali Hazelwood books because the characters are actually in college studying and sometimes talking about what they are learning while it’s atill an entertaining and driven book.

You might enjoy reading some memoirs or autobiographies. They often strike a nice balance of providing a captivating human story while also illuminating a topic beyond the person themselves. A really popular from from the last decade or so is Uneducated by Tara Westover. One I really enjoyed lately is called Finding the Mother Tree by Suzanne Simard which uses her life story as a groundbreaking ecologist to relay all kinds of interesting information about trees.
