    I never read many books growing up, and the ones I did were comic-adjacent or non-fiction fact books. I recently realized that whenever I was forced to read a novel, like in English class, I actually ended up enjoying myself a lot and getting super invested. Afterwards, I tried searching for books to read myself, but I’m just too quick to judge by the cover and synopsis. Not to mention, it’s hard to know which book is the “best” to read next when there’s just so many of them! These are the few books I’ve read so far…

    RECENT
    The Art Thief – Michael Finkel
    Hamlet – Shakespeare
    \The Golden Son* – Shilpi Somaya Gowda
    ** -> 100% cried, appreciated the two person storytelling to exemplify contrasted lifestyles
    Homegoing – Yaa Gyasi
    Fahrenheit 451 – Ray Bradbury
    Macbeth – Shakespeare
    **\Frankenstein
    * – Mary Shelley
    -> 100% also cried, thought it was very well written overall
    Twelfth Night – Shakespeare
    Lord of The Flies – William Golding
    \The Book Thief* – Markus Zusak
    -> 10000% cried, was able to make you care about the characters and kept me guessing throughout
    The Marrow Thieves – Cherie Dimaline

    A WHILE AGO
    The Hobbit – J. R. R. Tolkein
    Holes** – Louis Sachar
    The Invisible Man – H.G. Wells
    *The Time Machine
    * *– H.G. Wells
    *Coraline
    – Neil Gaiman
    Bridge to Terabithia – Katherine Paterson

    Again, these are quite literally ALL of the books (..and play-writes) I’ve read. I enjoyed every single one of them, actually! The ones I starred and put in bold are my top 3; I also added a little note about why I liked them.

    I’m looking for books I can connect with and enjoy, whilst also learning something from them. I appreciate how most of the books I’ve read recently contain complex themes that can be interpreted and analyzed in many different ways.

    Something I typically DON’T enjoy in a book is modern day slang/jokes.. it tends to break the immersion for me. I also don’t care for overtly sexual scenes in a story; it’s alright if it’s minimal or relevant to the story/character’s development.

    I’m looking forward to getting some suggestions, thank you :)!
