I’ve mostly read manga and manhwa before, but I wanna try getting into actual books now. English also isn’t my first language, so I’d prefer books that aren’t too hard to understand.
I’m into political/warfare stuff, war themes in general, or really sad life/romance stories.

got into reading through manga too so i get it – for war stuff maybe start with something like all quiet on the western front since writing is pretty straightforward but still hits hard, and for sad romance you could try me before you or similar books that don’t use too complex language
