So I have always liked reading, but lately I find it harder and harder to read. Like i would still do it pretty regularly, but it is not the feeling of being super interested in the story and making time to read it and see how it develops, in the last 2-3 years I felt like that for Clavell's asian saga books which are my all time favorites, and for the spraw thrilogy by William Gibson and Murakami's "What I talk about when I talk about running". I am currently reading the Aubrey-Maturin series and a few non-fiction books, but it just feels a bit like a chore, I just don't get super sucked into these stories to the point where I am excited to actually see where they go. The above books I read a few times audiobook and regular book formats in the past few years. I don't know where to go to now I just can't find a book that grabs me in the same way or just in general my interest has gone. I have tried reading some Michener books, the novel about Musashi, Lonesome Dove but none of them really grabbed me.

    1. do you read other forms of literature? Poetry, short stories, plays. Switch genres. If not just take a break.

There’s an old librarian thing that was something like if you’re not enjoying what you’re reading anymore you should try reading something you wouldn’t usually read.

    3. Try reading some graphic novels like Watchmen and From Hell, or some acclaimed manga like Berserk (which probably has one of the best antagonists I’ve ever seen anywhere, like top 3 best).

    4. Has the internet destroyed your power of concentration?
If that’s the case, try reducing net surfing.

When it happens to me I take the time to reread some of my favourite books

I totally agreed with all comments above. Personally switching to another genre for a while and then going back to my saga really helped me

If I felt like that I honestly would take a break from reading until I feel like I want to read again

Keep looking! How about any of the following incredible novels:

The Grapes of Wrath – John Steinbeck

      Perfume – Patrick Suskind

      Quarantine – Jim Crace

I try to do fiction/ non-fiction. But sometimes the non-fiction is dryer then sandpaper and it is a slog. Switch to something really simple and juicy like a summer reading murder mystery or a juicy YA book you have never read before. You will be through it in no time and it is like a slow walk for the brain after running with a weighted vest.

    10. Five yourself a break. If it feels like a chore at the moment, then stop forcing yourself to read and attend to another hobby or even better: try something completely new. Then after a while, you pick up reading again and then I do agree with others: try other genres, or something you otherwise wouldn’t read and then go back to your favourites.
