I just finished reading The Ghostwriter by Julie Clark, about a woman who agrees to ghostwrite the memoir of her famous horror novelist father, whom everyone suspects was the one who murdered his brother and sister in the summer of 1975. It was very good, and I especially enjoyed the idea of a case that has long since gone cold being solved by the average everyday person with little to no experience in detective work but a major drive to find answers. Any recommendations for similar books?

The Daughter Of Time (1951) by Josephine Tey is one of the OGs in this category.
