Currently reading Kafka On the Shore and I realised how much I love cats being actual characters. I also realised that some of my favourite games also include cats as actual characters (fran bow, stray) Are there any books out there from the perspective of a cat or just about talking cats? Kind of a weirdly specific thing to ask of but I just really like cats.

I don’t know if this would be what you’re looking for necessarily, but Coraline by Neil Gaiman does have a talking cat in it and its definitely a “weird” book in the sene that Kafka books are usually really weird. Personally, I’m a big fan of it!
John Scalzi’s ***Starter Villain*** is the most entertaining book I’ve read recently. It’s a spoof of the early James Bond movies. A substitute teacher inherits his estranged uncle’s villainy which comes complete with a secret volcanic lair.
The cats are not the main character, but are very important figures in the story. So much so that a cat is on the cover.
Dungeon Crawler Carl. One of the main characters is a show cat named Donut, and boy is she a main character.
The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa! She has other cat books as well but I’ve only read the one, it was incredible but also made me cry so hard
I have a couple old suggestions for you. Tailchaser’s Song by Tad Williams and Breed to Come by Andre Norton.
