Hi, I’m trying to identify a specific genre or find book recommendations.

I recently read Exorcism of Faeries by J.L. Vampa and really enjoyed it. What stood out to me was that it was set in a real-world location where the characters had normal lives and jobs, and the romance was mostly a subplot. The main hook was a single fantastical element involving fae-related deaths (I’ll avoid spoilers), rather than a world full of magic or supernatural systems.

It also reminds me of Nocticadia by Keri Lake, where there’s a mysterious supernatural illness causing harm, but no broad fantasy setting or typical creatures like vampires, werewolves, dragons, or warlocks. Everything feels grounded in reality except for that one central anomaly.

I’m also thinking of books like The Spiderwick Chronicles and Fablehaven from my childhood, where fantastical creatures exist in our world and are often rooted in folklore or unidentifiable. However, I’m specifically looking for adult fiction rather than YA.

If anyone knows what genre this might be called or has recommendations, I’d really appreciate it.

    Thanks.
