Guys l am not American but l really like its culture and everything related to that especially the diversity of opinions and perspectives when it comes to a lot of issues, anyways as the title says l am at this moment interested in this debate between conservatives and progressives and l desperitely need book suggestions about this topic specifically about progressiveness and anything that would open my eyes, Thanks
I have to add that l usually don’t like the bestselling books or the wildly famous ones because they tend to be superficial, l want something deeper and critical

    1. John Boehner was Speaker of the House when American politics started going crazy. He wrote a great memoir called On the House.

*Liberalism* by Domenico Losurdo traces the history of both progressive and conservative strains of liberal thought. It isn’t only about the US but they are a primary focus.

I mean, you’re asking for a HUGE topic here. The political schism comes down to a ton of intersectional factors that range from race, to identity, to location, to culture, to class and money, to age, to education.

Regardless, my recommendation is [A Great Disorder: National Myth and the Battle for America by Richard Slotkin](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/197877738). It’s worth noting Slotkin leans heavily left— but most books on the subject will have an obvious political bias. But I like the way Slotkin breaks things down and that he ties current American ideology back to the founding of what is now modern America.
