Fiction about animals?

I’m not necessarily talking about books with animal protagonists (though something like Call of the Wild would be fine, even though I’ve read that one specifically), and I’d like to avoid anthropomorphic animals if possible (though I expect a few responses in that vein lol).

Mostly I’m looking for something with themes that remark upon our relationship with animals, our evolution from animals, what it means to live on a world with other life, etc.

Obviously there’s going to be significant crossover with some environmentalist literature, which is fine
