Any crime books similar to “Mean on North Ganson Street” or “The Slanted Gutter”

Love Zahler’s work, especially his westerns, but I think Mean Business and The Slanted Gutter are his best. I love these kind of crime thriller books and was wondering if there’s any books in the same vein as those.
