Now, this is a bit hard to explain but I will try anyway:
I am looking for a Book, that centers around either a gay romance or relationship, but that is not a MlM Booktok young adult romance. (I am not looking for a pining + spice + happily ever after story)
I am more interested in a mature story (not the spice kind, I don't like spice.) that depicts a nuanced relationship. (Can be historical, or with an older couple etc)
I know there are a lot of good classics like Maurice or The Color Purple (I read this one) but a lot of them seem to end in tragedy which is not my preferred ending. (I am not against classics in the slightest though!)
One book I really enjoyed was A Botanical Daughter, since the main Gay couple is the most imperfect and messy long term couple I have ever read, but they still sorta make it work.
I also read House at the Cerullian Sea and other works from the same author, which were a comforting read but got a bit too silly for me sometimes. (I still enjoyed them though.)
Thank you in advance!

Brokeback Mountain – E Annie Proulx’s original story, not the movie.
Sarah Winman books. The characters are often gay but that’s not where the story centres, Sarah is a wonderful author.
Maurice doesn’t end in tragedy, you should give it a try!
I really enjoyed the Will Darling trilogy by KJ Charles, it‘s historical with a well written plot. It has some spice though, but definitely not the main event of the book. I’m reading the Enlightenment trilogy by Joanna Chambers at the moment, also historical, good plot and some spice but not the main focus of the books.
