    hi all!

i recently got back into reading after a slump, and i've really been enjoying it.

in the past, i've really enjoyed madeline miller's works and considered them my favourite books. but now that i've been broadening my horizons a bit, i've found that my taste in books is similar to my taste in film, meaning that i want to be lied to.

amc's interview with the vampire is a great example of this. unreliable narrator, both due to memory issues and because deliberate lying is going on. i love rewatching that show and finding new details that i didn't before. in general, i love when stuff gets better the second and third time.

then i recently read project hail mary, and i also really liked that. i like when the main character doesn't have all the pieces yet and makes sense of the world bit by bit, either due to amnesia or because they're in a world they don't understand.

the folk of the air trilogy was really good too, and something i really liked was that not only was the main character lied to by other characters, thus deceiving the reader, but also that she sometimes hid things from the reader, meaning that even you don't know what her plan is most of the time.

i'd love some suggestions with this theme. i like any genre except thrillers/whodunnits. romance is welcome but not a requirement, though i do prefer books to be character-centric. i love deep relationships, be they platonic, romantic or familial. i enjoy seeing how characters fit together and influence each other.

give me something that'll have me throwing the book when things finally click together!
