Does anyone else get weirdly attached to very quiet novels? This novel's atmosphere reminded me a little of Ishiguro or Kawakami at their most subdued, which is that same sense of emotional distance quietly swallowing people whole. I don’t know. Maybe I’m overstating it because I finished it recently, but it’s rare for a book this gentle to linger this intensely afterward.
