I’m the Book Auntie and always get my niblings books for birthdays and holidays. I’m also the auntie who encourages my niblings to explore new ideas and a wide range of viewpoints.
For my 9-year-old niece, I’m looking for something that will inspire confidence and independence.

Terry Pratchett. THE WEE FREE MEN.
My daughter enjoys both more advanced books and easier things she can just tear through.
On the latter, Harriet the Hamster princess books were delightful.
Pippi Longstocking.
How about [Nevermoor](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/6a6d5ca1-b2f5-47be-828c-018144d3bbc7) by Jessica Townsend? It’s my favorite series even as an adult.
Also, has she read the [Real Friends](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/890c702d-bd48-4c59-9de9-2c2fdc725933) graphic memoirs by Shannon Hale? I definitely recommend those if she hasn’t. They’re very much in line with the themes you’re looking for.
The Little House on the Prairie Series or The Secret Garden
