Basically as the title says. I find it disappointing, that as someone who loves fairytales and the imagery of dashing, handsome, strong men, that most modern retellings I see, in an effort to boost up the princess, has to make her man be all the more ugly.
I don't even need a story where the hero and heroine fall in love and stay in love, if they stay as just friends that's great too! Fantastic! Sometimes first love doesn't work out! That would be a fantastic way to play with more modern sensibilities. But I'm sick of my favorite characters being the designated villain, even before the actual bad guys!
Please I'm begging you, help my inner child.

Its been a while since ive read them, by Alex Flynn had a lot of good retellings (author of beastly)
I remember with vividly that the sleeping beauty retelling does the prince justice.
