Suggest me your favorite children’s books to build my son’s library.
He’s 3 months old and we’ve been reading goodnight moon and the hungry caterpillar on repeat but I would like some more variety.
Also add a comment on why you / your child loves the book you’ve suggested.

My 19 month old is obsessed with Sandra Boynton books, especially The Going to Bed Book.
We also love other Eric Carle books, such as You’re my Little Baby, The Very Hungry Caterpillar Eats Lunch, and others.
And pretty much any books that have flaps or touch and feel pages. They kind of let you know what they like as they get older too!
A Peaceable Kingdom: The Shaker Abacadarius
The alphabet but so poetic with lovely illustrations. I read it over and over to my children starting in infancy. I can still recite much of it because it is so memorable
Barnyard Dance, Pajama Time and the Going to Bed Book all by Sandra Boynton…just super fun and easy reads.
*Bear Snores On* and *Bear Can’t Sleep* by Karma Wilson. They’re lovely, funny bedtime books.
My daughter also loved the Usborne “That’s Not My [fill in the blank]” books, which are touch and feel books and have a lot of different textures.
Tactile books can be a delight.
Is This My Nose? by Georgie Birkett is a delight. Very interactive, very soon.
I’m fond of the Spot books by Eric Hill.
Where Is the Green Sheep, by Mem Fox and Judy Horacek
Snuggle Puppy by Sandra Boynton.
Hey, Wake Up by Sandra Boynton (So far, I think you can’t go wrong with her!)
These are all books you can act out with your child, and are easy to do quietly or loudly as you choose.
Little Blue Truck and ABCs of Kindness were a couple of my kiddos favorites at that age. Little blue truck is great because it’s rhyming and has a good message plus different animal and car sounds which are fun for the reader and the baby. ABCs of Kindness for similar reasons. The rhyming is fun and it’s a good message. My son always loved “J is for Joy when you make somebody’s day” which we always read in an enthusiastic tone for him. Both of my kids(now 2 and 4 years old) have tons of books and love reading stories before bed every night and I just got so sad that I’m having a hard time remembering which books aside from Very Hungry Caterpillar and the two that I mentioned were their favorites when they were 3 months old! Time flies!
For little little babies tactile books are the best. My kid liked Snow Baby and That’s Not My Owl, especially if I took their hand to touch the book.

Going to bed book, pajama time, blue hat green hat and others by Sandra Boynton
Brown Bear Brown Bear
Anything Little Blue Truck
The Napping House. King Bidgood’s in the Bathtub. Make Way for Ducklings.
Goodnight Gorilla
I love I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen. It’s funny and one I always enjoy reading. I also love Chris Haughton’s books, especially Don’t Worry Little Crab. The illustrations are gorgeous.
My baby’s favourite books are more sensory ones. He’s loved the That’s Not My books, and where’s Mr(s)… for months. He love the different textures in the That’s Not My books, and the flaps in Where’s Mr(s) are really durable and he’s obsessed with mirrors. We’ve just got Peekaboo Love in the last month which he’s obsessed with. I’ll definitely get a few more in the series. They have slider to move flaps or turn things, plus a mirror. He’s 13mo now but I’m sure a younger baby would like to see the book moving up and down before they could do it themselves.
And finally l like to read poetry books. My favourite from my childhood is When We Were Very Young by AA Milne. The poems are fun for children and read well for adults.
Beatrix Potter, Frog and Toad, Winnie the Pooh and Mercer Mayer—you can’t beat those 4!
