Hi there beautiful community! Im needing some help with this one, something Game of Thrones ish, perhaps? Or any fantasy or dark fantasy related book, I'm writing a small fanfic with some OCs inside the game of thrones lore, but I need to educate myself way more and I have no idea what to read.
I don't read quite often and I'm so interested in this genre, but I don't know what or where to start with, so I'll appreciate any suggestions very much, thanks!

I just finished One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig, and i enjoyed it a lot. Just bought the second book and i’m excited to dive in
One fantasy series that I’d suggest, bringing in a new element to the familiar **A Song of Ice and Fire** fantasy settings, is Ken Liu’s **Dandelion Dynasty**, which brings in technological progress. As the series goes on, society discovers steam power, primitive submarines, electricity, typewriters, and early flying machines, which very materially affect the plot. One thing that felt weird to me in *Game of Thrones/Song of Ice and Fire* was this notion of a centuries-old kingdom where technology seems to be frozen in time.
The character development and the political intrigue are better in ASoIaF, but if you’re looking for something that could make exploring that universe more interesting, the technological progress in Dandelion Dynasty could do the trick.
Way of kings is amazing. Stormlight archives (way of kings) is basically the most acclaimed modern fantasy series released.
Newer series I just read was will of the many, I enjoyed it. If you liked hunger games style books you will likely enjoy it, but it is not at all like game of thrones. Fairly easy read and pretty action packed, I think it’s good for beginners.
The dragon blade chair is another option, it’s what game of thrones was inspired by, and it has a lot of similarities. But I have no idea if it’s any good because I have yet to read it.
Assassin’s apprentice by Robin hobb is also a great fantasy book, and it is low fantasy kind of like game of thrones, but it is different. Still a lot of political intrigue though.
