Currently rewatching Boardwalk Empire and looking for a good companion piece book.
I’ve already read James Carlos Blake’s “Handsome Harry” and “World of Thieves” along with Chuck Hogan’s “Live by Night”, anything else good out there?
Thank you!

Three novels set in Detroit, combining real people with fictional characters:
Whiskey River (1990) by Loren D. Estleman, set in Detroit in the 1920s. Based on real events and people, although the main character is fictional.
The Sugar House (2014) by Jean Scheffler follows the life of Joe Jopolowski, a Polish-American boy who drops out of school as a teenager, and gets involved with transporting liquor for the Sugar House Gang and Purple Gang.
Walking the Edge: A novel.of 1920s Detroit (2023) by Thomas E. Hall, follows Joe Wilson, a young man who gets involved with wealthy auto industry executives (Edsel Ford, the Dodge brothers) and with rumrunners illegally importing liquor from Canada to Detroit.
There’s a book called Z or Zelda that’s about F Scott Fitzgerald’s wife. It’s fiction but based on facts that’s pretty good
Steinbeck may scratch that itch as well.
Given Day series by Dennis Lehane
The Wettest County in the World by Matt Bondurant (adapted for film as “Lawless”)
Billy Bathgate by E L Doctorow
