I read a lot of feminist theory and I don't read much fiction. The fiction books I gravitate towards are excellent books, just not lighthearted (Outline, The Bell Jar, Joan Didion, Virginia Woolf, etc.). I'm not a big fan of fantasy or romance. I feel like the books that I see recommended fall into the categories of sad girl, romance, or fantasy. List off anything you can think of plss!!

    1. Rebecca was one of my favorites. Loved the setting and deep characterization.

I gravitate towards heavy fiction and non-fiction so I definitely know what you mean.
You might like Get the Picture by Bianca Bosker. It’s non-fiction — journalist embeds herself in NY art community for a couple of years working in two galleries, as an artist assistant and on staff at the Guggenheim. She’s a great writer — funny and whip smart. I had read two very heavy books back to back before reading this one; and I really enjoyed it. Other lighter books I’ve loved through the years:
Bossypants by Tina Fey (memoir of time before SNL), The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Jitterbug Perfume (had to go wayyy back for some of these).

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe (or other Flagg books?)
