Im not the biggest fan of reading. I get lazy. But I got really into PHM and LOVED IT.

The only other books I've read recently were (dont judge) the Warrior Cats series. I really liked those as a kid, found the first book again, read it as "a joke" but got way too invested and got pretty far into the whole series before I got bored (Arc 5 or 6 I think)

So I don't really know what genre of books I like. I don't know if I like PHM so much because it's sci-fi, or because Grace is just a fun character.

Im not interested in romance. Rom-com movies are not my favourites.

I know there's a million great stories and great books to get into. Im stuck in that "I love this book, so i want a different book that gives me the EXACT same feelings as the book I love" mindset.

So idk. What do you guys think i should get into next? I might have an easier time with audio books, but I can get into reading a real book as well

      Some, perhaps…

      The Martian
The obvious next step, but for good reason. Same author, same “clever dude survives impossible situation by aggressively doing math at it” energy.

      Dungeon Crawler Carl
Audiobook especially. Absolute goblin-chaos. Funny, fast, weirdly heartfelt. A lot of people who “don’t read much” inhale this series like potato chips dusted with adrenaline.

Bobiverse starting with We Are Legion (We Are Bob)
If they liked the humor and sci-fi curiosity of PHM, this lands beautifully. Very audiobook-friendly too.

      Dark Matter
Fast, cinematic, impossible to put down. Feels like Netflix accidentally got trapped inside a particle accelerator.

Murderbot Diaries starting with All Systems Red
A socially exhausted security robot just wants to watch TV instead of dealing with humans. Dry humor, short books, super accessible.

      Ready Player One
Very readable popcorn sci-fi adventure. Especially good if they want something easy to slide into.

      Red Rising
Less science-y, more “Roman Empire in space with jetpacks and emotional damage.” Extremely addictive pacing.

      World War Z
The audiobook is legendary. Full cast interview format makes it feel more like a documentary than a traditional book.

I know it’s hard not to but the key so to not chase the exact same feeling as PHM. Chase books that make you forget you’re reading.

    2. I really liked the audiobook – I’m Starting to Worry About This Black Box of Doom by Jason Pargin

if you go to amazon and look at the audio book for PHM and you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, there’s usually a “other people liked this” or most often purchased with this.

And if you go to Goodreads and look up the listing for PHM, if you scroll down there will be recommended reads, so that might be an idea to check out and see if any of those scratch that itch.

Ok so, I will DIE on the hill that audiobooks are reading and don’t you every devalue yourself or let someone else say you’re less smart because you read audiobooks.
