Fiction reader seeks fiction book. I'd like a bit of an old soul – something recently published but set in the 70s/80s/90s. Something different – preferably set in Africa or South America, but I am up for anything.
Our Share of Night, by Mariana Enriquez. Set in 1970s-1980s Argentina.

I’ll be up front that this book is set in Los Angeles, so it’s not exactly the Africa or South America you’re seeking. But it was written in 2009 and takes place in 1970, and I think it does an *exceptional* job of capturing both the location and the time period.
*Inherent Vice* by Thomas Pynchon, best categorized as a Psychedelic Noir novel. Super fun read!
