    Hello everyone,

I read a lot of thrillers and feel like everything is repetitive or predictable. I’ve read most of the popular thriller authors and very few books have shocked me or turned out different than what I thought. I’m looking for authors that write really good thrillers, maybe less popular authors. Any recs? Thanks!

If you haven’t read Terry Hayes, his books are terrific. The less you know about Year of the Locust, the better

    2. I’ll be the first to admit that “thriller” is pretty low on the list of genres this book could possibly be classified as. Sci-fi, cosmic horror, and weird fiction are more pronounced, but hear me out.

*Annihilation* by Jeff VanderMeer. The way it’s written definitely feels like it channels some thriller energy, and I promise that if nothing else, you will not be able to see where the ending is going until you’re basically on top of it. And I also promise there’s a very good chance you’ve never read anything like it before.

Bonus points that it’s nice and short, about 200 pages, so it’s a low-stakes commitment. It is technically a part of a series, but it can absolutely stand alone, and of the entire series, *Annihilation* definitely feels the most thriller-y.

This series, and especially this specific book, absolutely did blow me away.

Have you tried SA Cosby? He’s one of my current favorites.

Or you could go in a totally different direction and check out Neuromancer by William Gibson, the OG of cyberpunk (plus there’s 2 more in that series!)

Gotta give it to Dennis Lehane. Shudder Island and Mystic River were both incredibly thrilling reads.
