27 and I used to love reading but fell off as a teenager. I work with animals for a living, and love them. Can be fiction, non fiction, but any recommendations for books with story based around an animal? Dog, cat, whatever lmao. Thanks so much 🥲

Remarkably Bright Creatures- fiction, the octopus parts were my favorite. I went and read a non-fiction book about them after the great novel.
You can’t go wrong with Gerard Durrell’s Corfu Trilogy if you haven’t read it yet! Full of animals and incredibly funny and nostalgic and beautiful
Other People’s Pets by R. L. Maizes
Unlikely Animals by Annie Hartnett
The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein
The Shady Hollow series by Juneau Black
if you like apocalyptic stories, hollow kingdom by kira jane buxton follows a crow through a zombie apocalypse where he and other animals try to figure out what is happening to the humans!
The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents by Terry Pratchett. Satirical fantasy. A talking cat, some very intelligent rodents and a stupid looking kid with a flute plot a pied piper scam.Â
Hollow Kingdom by Kira Have Buxton – a foul-mouthed, domesticated crow and his loyal bloodhound set out to save humanity’s pets after a mysterious pandemic turns people into mindless zombies.
Not based around an animal, persay, but *All Creatures Great & Small* by James Herriot might appeal. It’s about a country vet in the 1920s-1930s. I will say there are animals getting injured and dying, if you’re sensitive to that. But the series is overall a fairly easy (if emotional) read. I think there’s a TV adapation of it too.
The Chet and Bernie series by Spencer Quinn
Thomasina by Paul Gallico follows a cat through her 9 lives.
Tailchaser’s Song by Tad Williams is about a cat’s journey.
H is for Hawk, by Helen Macdonald.
