I usually have a novel going at any given time. But in the months of June through August I really try to plow through a lot, usually including one really beefy one.
I have a few titles nailed down that are basically cemented in, but I have a few wobblier ones that I might be led away from. I'm also open to pivot if anyone has any ideas, particularly in the realm of newish literary fiction(that has some heft but might be breezy enough to take on a beach. I'm thinking something like Emma Cline or Taffy Brodesser Akner or Paul Murray).
Pretty locked in
Gravity's Rainbow(the big boy of the summer. I've owned the book for almost two decades. I think now's the time)
Rejection(Tony Tulathimutte)
White Jazz(Ellroy. I read the rest of the LA Quartet this Spring)
Probably one of the following Ian McEwan books(Saturday, Amsterdam, What Can We Know, Chesil Beach)
Fringe picks
American War(Akkad)
The Heart of the Heart of the Country(Gass)
Jesus Son(Johnson)
Any Jack Reacher novel(always a summer comfort food thing for me after reading all this heavy stuff)
Glamorama(Ellis)
Evenings and Weekends(Oisin McKenna)
Hard Rain Falling(Carpenter)
Deep fringe(Books I have on my shelf that I'm not immediately eyeing)
Intermezzo(Rooney)
Piranesi(Clarke)
Cataract City(Davidson)
