I read The Second Sleepby Robert Harris during Covid, and it's one of the few books I've read where it seems initially like it's set in the year 1468, but it's soon revealed (through a complete subversion of expectation) that it's actually set in the distant future after an apocalyptic event that wiped out humanity and all their technology.

I'm sure there are plenty of other books set in a post-apocalyptic dystopia where the writer initially has you believe it's set in the past, but you later find out it's really set in the future. Can anyone name any others like this?

that’s a super interesting premise, another good one is “A Canticle for Leibowitz” which plays with time and history in a similar way. also “The Road” kinda gives off that vibe with its bleakness and how it feels timeless.
