I recently created a post where I talked about how it’s great that libraries are completely free (I live in Spain) and so one can read all the books one wants, for free, etc, and someone commented “What do you mean completely free? What about the library fee?”.
It made me think that maybe I have been mistaken in thinking all libraries are free in all countries and maybe some countries (I assume outside of Europe) don´t have public libraries that are totally free, like it is in Spain (as well as free healthcare, free education and other “basic human rights” that I consider to be essential and should be free for everyone, imo…). It left me a little sad to be honest, although I feel very lucky to live in Spain.
How is it in your country? Do you have to pay a fee? How long and how many books can you take out?
I´ll start:
SPAIN
\- PRICE: Public libraries in all cities and towns are free, no fees of any kind.
\- HOW MANY: You can take out 6 books at a time for 6 weeks
\- OTHER: You can also take DVDs/Blu rays, digital books, magazines, papers etc on top of that, but I’m not exactly sure as I don’t use these services.
\- LANGUAGES: There are books in different languages (English, French, German, although not all books). Most books are also in the other Spanish languages (Catalan, Galician, Basque – I live in Galicia so a lot of books are both in Spanish and Galician).
Have a great day and keep warm it´s chilly out!
