Hi everyone I have been rereading detective books and rewatching detective shows lately and while they are great I did notice a common tendency of the “Watson character”

Basically we have THE DETECTIVE who actually solves crimes and POV character is someone else. Either a green cop or someone unrelated to the profession who knows nothing (audience stand-in) who asks the detective how he deduced this and that and Detective explains IN DETAIL.

That is well and good, but it can go only so far.

I am curious is there a book which breaks away from this trope and we actually SEE Detective’s thought process instead of being TOLD like we are five year olds who need explanation for why sky is blue.

To put it in simple sentence: I would love a book with Sherlock Holmes WITHOUT John Watson.
