With the recent Netflix film, it intrigued me to buy the book (it was on sale this week for 0.99 on the kobo and kindle apps if you’re looking for it), as I wanted to read it before watching the film. I haven’t seen *Alive*, so this is my first experience with the nitty gritty of this story.
My goodness.
This book is phenomenal. It’s my understanding the author was friends with one or more of the survivors and wanted to give them the opportunity to tell the full story, their way.
It alternates – first a chapter by the author, in which he chronologically talks about the major events, plane crash, and the days spent on the mountain; then a chapter written by one of the living survivors, where they outline their own experience, then back to the author.
I’ve simply never read anything like this. The bravery and comraderie these men went through is unlike anything so many of us will ever experience in our lifetimes.
I’ve cried so many times – it’s so moving to read about how much these men love each other and how their experience shaped their views. It’s overwhelming, and heartbreaking, and sad and happy and beautiful and I wanted to talk about it.
