I read 100 books last year and am looking to read at least that many this year. I have a pretty wide range of genres that I like—I mostly gravitate to mystery and fiction, but I also enjoy light thrillers, sci-fi, fantasy, romance, and YA. I do not tend to like historical fiction, classics, horror, or non-fiction.

I am looking for book recommendations that are 4.5-5 ⭐️ reads. For reference, some of my favorite authors/reads recently have been:

    Mystery/Thriller:

    Louise Penny: Inspector Gamache series,
    Tana French: Dublin Murder series,
    Dervla McTiernan: Cormac Reilly series,
Julia Heaberlin: We Are All the Same in the Dark; Night Will Find You,
Shea Ernshaw: A History of Wild Places,
Harlan Coben: Six Years; The Boy From the Woods,
    Lucy Foley: The Guest List

    Fiction:

Ann Patchett: Tom Lake; The Dutch House; State of Wonder,
Delia Owens: Where the Crawdads Sing,
    Erica Bauermeister: The Scent Keeper,
    Emma Straub: This Time Tomorrow,
Kevin Wilson: Nothing to See Here

    Thriller/Sci-fi:

    Tom Sweterlitsch: The Gone World,
    Hugh Howey: Silo series,
    Brandon Sanderson: The Reckoners series

    Romance:

    Emily Henry: Book Lovers,
    Christina Lauren: The Unhoneymooners

What are some amazing books out there that I am missing out on? Thanks in advance!

I just finished The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah this afternoon. I absolutely loved it.

Romance – read more Emily Henry & Christina Lauren – they are all cute. Also try Ali Hazlewood books. I really enjoyed both The Matchmakers Gift and Kissing Kosher last year too.

Thriller: Gone Girl, Rock Paper Scissors, The Push

First in Mystery Series: The Spellman Files, Track of the Cat, Sworn to Silence, Cormoran Strike

Fiction-ish: Jitterbug Perfume, Kitchens of the Great Midwest, Guncle, We Ride Upon Sticks, The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell, Geek Love, Prince of Tides, City of Girls (I know you said no historical fiction, but I think you’d like this based on your other reads – give it a try!)

Piranesi by Susanna Clark and Dark Matter by Blake Crouch are 5 stars I would recommend to anyone. Dune and Hyperion are both books/series that will always be five stars for me but I understand they’re not for everyone
