Looking for some sci fi audiobooks! Generally when I read scifi I’m focused on the ideas and some of my favourites are things where the actual writing is fine but not the main draw (from classics like Foundation series to recent stuff like Project Hail Mary). But for audiobooks I find that the actual writing has to be really good to hold my attention.

I haven’t read masses of modern scifi so looking for recommendations that have this more literary quality. As I’m looking for an audiobook, good if there’s one with a good performer too.

    1. BlackCarmenSandiego on

The Three Body Problem. Big, grand, massive ideas keep coming and they don’t stop coming.

    2. Have you read anything by Alastair Reynolds? I feel like he’d probably fit what you’re looking for. The *Revelation Space* series or *House of Suns* are two places to start. If you opt for *Revelation Space*, make sure to seek out the novella *Diamond Dogs* at some point. That’s probably Reynolds’ best work. I can’t speak to the quality of any of the audiobooks, though, as I’ve only read them.

As far as audiobooks go, *The Expanse* by James SA Corey is great. I listened to that one last year in lieu of a reread and the narrator was great. It starts out a little small in scale but ramps up pretty quickly early in the series.
