Recently I’ve enjoyed “Other Birds”, “Garden Spells” and “First Frost” by Sarah Addison Allen, “South of the Buttonwood tree” by Heather Webber and “Prodigal Summer” by Barbara Kingsolver. I adore Fredrik Backman but his stuff makes me too emotional. I am open to all suggestions.

I’m sorry you have to have a long NICU stay and I hope everyone gets healthier and stronger every day.

      For lightheartedness:
      Discworld by Terry Prachett
      anything by Bill Bryson
Bertie and Jeeves books by PG Wodehouse

      Similar to what you like:
The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery
      novels by Joanna Trollope
or if you like settings in the south, books by Fannie Flagg

      For pure escapism:
some good old fashioned mysteries like those by Rex Stout, Ngaio Marsh, Dorothy Sayers. GK Chesterton

The Family Ship – Sonja Yoerg, written from the perspectives of several members of a large family from Maeve the 42 yr old Mother to 6 yr old Cyrus. It is relatively low stakes in terms of plot, although bad things do happen, but it is really strong on charcterisation and exploring family dynamics in a authentic way. I feel like Barbara Kingsolver fans would really enjoy.

At Sea – Laurie Graham, a woman in her fifties re-examines her marriage while on a cruise. I read this while sick with covid and it was the perfect book for a foggy brain.

When we went through that we listened to some lighter stuff like Bobiverse(first kid, 31 days)and Iron Druid(2nd kid, 29 days).

They’re both happy and healthy now. Best of luck and don’t forget to eat.
