I don’t intent to share any spoilers of this book, however in summary this book is an autobiography detailing Jess’ time through a “fast track” police detective program within the Met Police. My dad recommended it to me because I’m also a police detective, albeit not within the same police force.
The book highlights the realities of the occupation and, more specifically, the fast-track process in order to fill the void of Detective Constables that is currently a huge issue within UK policing.
The book is written in what I would call a casual manner, in that Jess is very “matter of fact” in her approach to writing – she details the gnarly parts of policing that nobody can prepare you for and explains plainly the reality that nobody can ever really prepare for.
I have owned the book for 2 days and I’m roughly halfway through it, it’s a brilliant read and some bits had me laughing out loud which I find to be a rarity.
If you have any specific questions in relation to it I’m happy to answer them.
