    Hi all,

My husband and I are wanting to do a buddy read. He’s not a huge reader (I am) so he’s a little picky. Looking for suggestions in any genre but I’m listing some “guidelines” below.

    – No blatant smut (his words, not mine). Romance would be ok, but nothing raunchy for the sake of being raunchy.
    – Short chapters
    – 1st person preferred, not required
    – Nothing too super long, also maybe nothing too short.
    – Something approachable!
    – No YA.

We’re trying to reconnect and discuss something other than the baby.

Maybe one of the Jack reacher novels. The first one is called Killing Floor.

Or if you want a story with a mystery that’s hard to predict the outcome: The Last House on Needless Street

It’s nonfiction but my husband really enjoyed reading Ann Patchett’s book of essays These Precious Days. He read it because I kept talking about it. The essays vary in length. I think it meets all of your other criteria.

    3. Books my husband and I have been able to enjoy as audiobooks while driving many many hours:

      Horse, by Geraldine Brooks.
      the Wager, by David Grann.
Winterdance, by Gary Paulsen (1st person)
Project Hail Mary, by Andy Weir (1st person)
Bobiverse novels, by Dennis Taylor (1st person)
Born a Crime, Trevor Noah (1st person)
Lafayette in the Somewhat United States, Sarah Vowell.
Everyone in My Family has Killed Someone, Benjamin Stevenson (1st person)
The Incomplete Book of Running, Peter Sagal (1st person)
      Greenlights, Matthew McConaughey
I know you didn’t ask for audiobooks, but I suggest these because we both could agree on them and we have very different reading interests.
      Edited for format
