I absolutely love the work of Charles Willeford, but I’m looking for something that’s similar to his non-fiction autobiographical work if possible. He’s known for his hardboiled detective stories, but I particularly love his book about his experience in the peacetime army *Something About A Soldier*.
Unfortunately, looking for suggestions like his work always leads down the hardboiled detective route, which is not what I’m after.
I guess I’m seeking something that exists on the axis of Willeford, Bukowski and Hemingway if that makes any sense?
