English degree gal looking for a book that challenges me without turning to the classics

Just finished CMBYN, Find Me, Confessions of a 40 Year-Old F**k Up, and am looking for a book that will challenge me but not to the point of exhaustion.

Not a sci-fi, dystopia, or “beach read” fan.
