Well-written is subjective, obviously. I’m just really looking for something that doesn’t read like a YA novel, you know? No plot points that are “too convenient”, no clunky/cheesy dialogue that feels lazy. It just pulls me so out of the story regardless of how good the plot is.
I’ve been avoiding a lot of the popular modern literature because every time I see what seems like a good suggestion on booktok or something it’s massively disappointing.
I’m preferably looking for a standalone novel, I don’t want a whole series to commit to.
I’ve been really into Kurt Vonnegut recently and I do enjoy the blunt wit of his style, but I’m hoping for something a little more fantastical/flowery.
Please don’t think I’m stuck up. I just really am sick of how lazy a lot of the recent modern books I’ve read feel. Help 🙁
