I am the typical “read 30 minutes before bed” type of reader, injected with a few 1-2 hour reading sessions outside in the summer. As a result, I realized I love books where every chapter something cool happens, so that even during a 30 minute reading session I can go to bed satisfied. I’m also not natively speaking english (German is my mother tongue) so I avoid really complex language filled with tough vocabulary (Blood Meridian was the worst reading experience of my life).

I think genre wise I need atleast a little bit of fiction. I recently read Midnight Library (very enjoyable to read, but it felt a bit surface level) and liked the fictional framework of the eponymous library. The book also felt well paced, with relatively short chapters. I also read Dune 1-3 and enjoyed the more “mature” setting (no dragons, no chosen one that saves the world).

Length wise it should be at around 500 pages max. At 30 minutes a day, thats on average one book per month. I don’t want to be mathematically though, the length doesn’t really matter as long as there is satisfaction to be had in reading it in 30 minute sessions.

Books I recently read that I liked:

    Dune

    Dune Messiah

    Norse Mythology by Neil Gaimann

    Midnight Library

A song of Ice and Fire first book (Waiting for GRRM to finish Winds of Winter before I invest more into this)

    Books I didn’t like:

    Blood Meridian

Children of Dune (I couldn’t connect with the characters at all since they were so outlandish)
