As someone who likes writing (or at least the *idea* of writing), I constantly get distracted when I’m reading a book. I’ll get distracted by the writing style, the author’s personal life “leaking” onto the book, the progression of the plot, how believable the characters are, etc.

There’s a voice inside my head that never shuts up, basically. It constantly analyzes what I’m reading and doesn’t allow me to fully enjoy the story.

It doesn’t help that the bar for what passes as a “good book” has gotten very very low recently. It’s like participation trophies. Many books/authors seem to get attention simply for existing, but the writing quality and/or storytelling can be mediocre or even horrible.

I end up getting distracted more often when I notice a typo or some kind of mistake in the writing. Or sometimes the writing feels like something that was written for a Twitter audience.

    How do I overcome this?
