I’m on the lookout for a book recommendation for my dad, who recently expressed an interest in reading novels (he’s never read one before!). He only learned to read and write at age 30 (he is now 60) and has made progress, but his reading level is still on the lower side, compounded by struggles with dyslexia.
I’m hoping to find a captivating novel, preferably in the historical fiction or murder mystery genre, to kickstart his reading journey. A “who-done-it” mystery would be ideal to keep him motivated. Ideally the book should not exceed 200 pages to keep him motivated and not overwhelm him. Large text would be a significant plus to make the reading experience more accessible for him as well.
I’m looking forward to introducing my dad to the world of books with your help! Thanks 🙂

I would recommend Agatha Christie. She wrote several who done it’s with Poirot, miss Marple and Tommy and Tuppence.
Maybe also the books The Windsor Knot, A three dog problem and Murder most royal by S.J. Bennet. In these books/stories the late Queen Elizabeth solves crime. They have a certain miss Marple vibe.
Maybe daughter of Time by Josephine Tey?
